Aaron Finbloom, PhD
My sessions play with you, and your inner parts, on a collective journey of exploration into your self, and your world. I practice "parts work" – therapeutic, artistic and embodied practices that aim to provide transformation by working with a non-singular self that is divided into inner parts. To do parts work is to investigate our inner system of parts to more deeply understand them and thereby understand ourself. It is to find parts that are marginalized and help them feel accepted. It is to be a self-therapist for our inner family of parts and help them get along. It is to develop and strengthen parts that are missing or neglected. It is to gain greater awareness of our parts as they interface with the world. It is to be less controlled by our parts. It is to give "problematic" parts love, care, nourishment and acceptance so that they too can transform. My sessions integrate techniques of Psychodrama, Parts Mapping, Visioning, and Circling in an emergent relational process. To read more about these practices, please go to my Parts Work website. Relevant Background: I have received facilitator training in Circling, Authentic Relating and Psychodrama. For the past 5 years I have facilitated dozens of individual and groups sessions that work within these systems. I also have experience in Group Relations Conferences, Gestalt Therapy, Drama Therapy, Developmental Transformations and Internal Family Systems. I hold a PhD in Interdisciplinary Humanities & Fine Arts from Concordia University in Montreal and I am currently teaching Philosophy at the City College of New York. Testimonials: "Supportive, dynamic, caring, healing, connective, playful, exciting, flexible." "Working with Aaron was next level. I have never had a more meaningful experience in the pursuit of self work. Aaron was a sensitive guide who empowered me to connect to parts of myself I was maybe a little afraid to on my own. It was a completely unique and deeply personal experience each time." "Aaron has an original approach to therapeutic-adjacent exploration. The techniques that he employed during the sessions helped to put me in conversation with myself in interesting and revealing ways. Aaron is flexible and willing to listen in order to create a setting that fit my needs, desires, and curiosities. Working with Aaron is great for anyone looking for non-traditional ways to explore oneself." "I experienced Aaron as a wonderful facilitator, supplying the perfect environment for exploration of self and other; he hold a steady container yet also gently nudge us to the edge and beyond. Aaron offers and elicits from us a strong presence, somewhere in between praying and playing. And he asks right-on questions that both delve and re-assure that it is safe to come out of our hiding places." Pricing: I offer income-contingent sliding scales rates.
