PHANG
Philly Here-and-Now Group
West Philly (address given upon registration)
monthly, evenings (for specific day/times see below)

Picture
PHANG is a monthly, experimental, in-person “Here-and-Now” group in which we explore what’s emerging among us for two hours once a month. Anywhere between 3 and 9 people will gather to mindfully explore through discussion, emotional and somatic exploration, movement, journaling, and meditation. The group will most closely resemble Psychodynamic Group Therapy, but this group is not therapy and the intent is community building and experimentation. The structure will riff on and borrow from practices including Tavistock Group Relations, Process Work, Authentic Movement, Authentic Relating, Psychodrama, Internal Family Systems, and Circling. You need not be familiar with any of these to participate, nor does the group require any special preparation.

UPCOMING PHANGS:

Fall 2024 PHANG
Season of Circling Circling is a practice of observing what is happening the here-and-now of our group, with a focus on embodied presence. The practice can be thought of as a social/relational meditation, and the subject matter is what is happening for each of us and in the group as whole. More information on circling here. This fall and winter, PHANG will center around organic circling with minor tweaks and experiments thrown in, and some warmup and cool down.

RECENT PHANGS:

Aug 4 - AFWYN + Parts Exercise AFWYN: Ask For What You Need - We will gather in small groups to request care in whatever form strikes you that evening; perhaps you want to be sung a lullaby, or give a scalp massage. Perhaps you want to do a seated meditation together, or go for a walk outside. Each person will have a turn to ask for what they're craving, and group members will be able to say no or make counter proposals. Parts Exercise - An exercise from the world of IFS to be done in groups of 2-3, in which a part is embodied and offered care, with role reversals.

May 11 - Circling - We will maximize the time spent Circling.

February 4 - Kabuki Flow Circling - Similar to Circling but with pre-determined roles within the group, and the subject matter is what is happening in the group as whole (as opposed to regular Kabuki Circling, in which one of the roles is "circlee" and that person is receiving everyone's attention)

January 7 - Circling + Contact Improv - Building off a recent Earthdance retreat combining Circling and Contact Improv, we will move between somatic exploration, movement, and physical touch with one another, and Circling. This PHANG will be unusual in that it is designed for those open to giving and receiving physical touch, and the sharing of body weight, in a way that is heavily guided and designed to work for beginners.

December 3 - Kabuki Circling - Similar to Circling but with pre-determined roles within the group.
