FLOCK
playing with spontaneous synchronicity

Monday June 24, 7-9pm 2024
The Floor, 310 Atlantic Ave Brooklyn, NY

REGISTRATION
This workshop is an experiment in spontaneous movement, using the practice of Flocking as a way to explore witnessing, following, and supporting one another in social space.

Flocking is a group improvisational movement practice. The group stands together, facing one direction. The primary score is to follow the movements of the person you see in front of you; as the group rotates and moves through space, the 'lead' role shifts from one person to the next.

Over the course of two hours we'll play with shared movement and experiment with variations of Flocking, with and without music, and with various points of focus (loosely inspired by Mary Overlie's 6 Viewpoints). What happens when we play with variations in speed, distance, periphery, and focus? How do alternating and intertwined moments of leading and following develop a shared social reality?

This is a great opportunity for folks who are interested in intuitive and experimental movement practices, no experience in dance or performance art is necessary! Come to play!

Price: $15

Access notes: In this version of synchronous movement, the synchronicity can be felt rather than enacted. Participate to the extent available to you on that particular day. Presence of mind contributes to synchronicity more than following or replicating someone else's actions. Please reach out with any accommodations and access concerns.

Touch notes: This workshop will involve hand to hand touch as part of the opening activities. You are encouraged to participate and experiment in this if it's available to you, but are always welcome to step out of any activity if needed.
